Christopher's Three-Word Film Reviews: V For Vendetta

So, in the absence of University-related content (being it Easter holidays and all), I thought I'd do some informative, while brief, reviews of films I've been watching recently.

First up under my critical gaze: V For Vendetta.

Plot Outline: A shadowy freedom fighter known only as "V" uses terrorist tactics to fight against his totalitarian society. Upon rescuing a girl from the secret police, he also finds his best chance at having an ally.

My three-word review: clever, intricate and believable!

Would I pay to see this: definitely. Maybe even again! A big screen really does this film justice.

Would I recommend this to others: certainly. This is one of those films that you must see, it proposes a very possible future, whilst not pushing itself too far away from the truth with an unrealistic storyline, and, aside from Natalie Portman's wavering English accent, all members of the cast put in solid performances. Hugo Weaving's accent is flawless, though doubtless he ADRed quite a bit of his performance, wearing his Guy Fawkes mask for the entire film and all :D

Some really excellent twists, including one not even I was expecting (and I consider myself fairly familiar with the Wachowskis' work), character development is good and hey, I love seeing my capital city in a film, even if some of it is blown up.

...Oops, sorry, that last bit might be considered a spoiler (if you didn't catch any of the huge media coverage or reviews in the national press months ago ;)

Coming next: Ice Age 2, I think.

My husband saw that film and he really liked it. But it looks a bit too Dystopian for my liking. I like bubble-gum rom-coms, the more superficial the better! Hope you had a lovely Easter.
